Born and raised in NYC, Nicole eventually migrated to Boston in the late 80s. Through the use of color and dynamic gestures, she expresses emotion and physicality. Her process continues to evolve running parallel to her "in the moment" experiences. Sailing days lead to heavy strokes in seascapes. The "Moo" series from farm visits, resulted in her staring cows. Nicole's dog portraits original inspiration was her own dog, Shadow, which led to a chain reaction of canine pieces and commissions. The breadth of Nicole's work includes seascapes, landscapes, still life, animals, and figure.

When I paint, I create a portal to a new place

I am normally drawn to painting what is most relevant in my life. I love to sail, so quite often the sea, boats, buoys, and the sky become my muse. When I am sailing, I am in the moment. This feeling is what I experience when I am painting, so it is no wonder they come together.

I love animals and see their character begging me to paint them.  I look for that singular characteristic that defines their personality.  That characteristic becomes my guide. I gravitate often to capturing dog portraits.

Regardless of what I paint, I journey through the terrain of paint, color, texture, and gesture until I feel I have captured what makes the subject uniquely itself through my perception. Sometimes, it's the eyes, the crooked ears, the tongue, a gesture, the heeling of a boat, the beauty of a petal, or just the way light hits my subject.

The optimistic, spirited, yet stubborn self, fight and play with color and paint strokes to give rise to my style.
